The conflict between generations and age groups is a phenomenon of enduring concern in many parts of the continent. African youth, while forming a numerical majority, often feel excluded from power and are marginalized in socio-economic terms. An increasing number of children are suffering from war, poverty, abuse, human-rights violations and the effects of AIDS.
The twenty-first century presents a hostile face to millions of children and youth in many African countries.
